Who are the Beantown Jumpers?

We are a competitive Double Dutch team from Boston, Quincy and Pembroke.  Our team members include girls & boys who are in Grade 2 to Grade 5.   Our mission is to share the sport of  Double Dutch with others while encouraging physical activity, teamwork and fun.  In conjunction with the Red Auerbach Youth Foundation we believe in the value of sports and athletics to the healthy development, both physical and emotional, of children.

What’s a Demonstration/Workshop like?

We conduct fund-raising demonstrations and workshops.  We also perform at birthday parties and fairs.   Each event is a lot of energetic fun for everyone!  The team will perform a “Fusion” music presentation and then they will demonstrate the jumping styles necessary for competitions, including speed (2 minutes), compulsory (25 second dance routine) and a free-style (tricks) routine (1 minute).  After the presentation, group participation with the team is encouraged.   We will teach you how to jump in, turn the ropes and share some of our jump rope tricks!

Why are the Beantown Jumpers raising money?

We are performing to earn money for tournament and travel fees including expenses and uniforms needed for the teams.  The teams practice each week to train for a local tournament on Saturday, April 17, 2010. The top teams winning at the local tournament will advance to the State Tournament on Saturday, May 1, 2010.  The top teams from Massachusetts will then advance on to Sumter, South Carolina, to compete at a National Tournament that include International Teams from Japan and Germany.

Who coaches the Beantown Jumpers?

Coach Patti Travers is a Milton resident and an elementary physical education teacher in Boston.  Other volunteer coaches are mothers of the girls participating in the program.
